Johnson scores Faulkland’s first goal in JPL
MONTEGO BAY, St James – With the firepower at their disposal, it was central holding midfielder Husanna Johnson who scored Faulkland FC’s first-ever goal in the Jamaica Premier League when they played Mt Pleasant FA at Drax Hall on Sunday.
Johnson, one of the club’s longest-serving players and whose primary task is to prevent the opposition from scoring, etched his name in history when he scored a goal that would make any centre forward proud.
In one of their first forays down the field, Faulkland FC attacked on the right and when the ball was swung into the middle, Johnson was waiting for it and hit it on the volley left-footed past goalkeeper Tafari Chambers in the 22nd minute.
“It’s a great feeling,” Johnson told the Jamaica Observer West after the game.
“This will give me confidence and hopefully, the team will push on as well.”
He hardly had time to think and Johnson’s strike was instinctive.
“I did not think too much, just one option, kick it in the back of the net, and it is a great feeling,” he said.
But despite his heroics, Faulkland FC lost the game 2-1.
“We did well today, and all we need to do is put in the hard work and go for three points next time,” the Faulkland FC vice-captain told the Observer West.
