Jamaican stars shine in Suncorp Super Netball League
MELBOURNE, Australia (CMC) – Jamaican netballers Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard, Latanya Wilson, and Shamera Sterling-Humphrey were named to the Suncorp Super Netball League Team of the Year here Saturday.
Fowler-Nembhard who represents the New South Wales Swifts, showcased her trademark dominance this season, with the eight-time MVP amassing a league-leading 1571.5 net points. She also topped the charts with 813 goals from 846 goal attempts.
Sterling-Humphrey, who was a key player for the championship-winning Adelaide Thunderbirds, was a defensive stalwart, leading the league in defensive rebounds (36), intercepts (44), and deflections (96).
Wilson, also of the Adelaide Thunderbirds, was equally impressive, finishing second in both deflections (82) and intercepts (42).
The Adelaide Thunderbirds enjoyed a banner year, with their dominance extending beyond their championship triumph. Lauren Frew was named Rookie of the Year, head coach Tania Obst earned the Joyce Brown Coach of the Year title, and goal-shooter Lucy Austin was honoured as the Fast5 Player of the Series.
