‘Mama D’ re-elected Trelawny Southern MP in by-election
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — The Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert has been re-elected member of parliament for the Trelawny Southern constituency.
In a by-election on Friday, Dalrymple-Philibert polled 4,146 votes (74.3 per cent), beating independent candidate Lloyd ‘Mozy’ Gillings who got 1,434 (25.7 per cent).
According to the Electoral Office of Jamaica, the preliminary voter turnout was 22.3 per cent.
The vacancy in the seat had followed Dalrymple-Philibert’s resignation in 2023 amid mounting pressure in relation to eight charges laid against her by the Integrity Commission (IC).
The main opposition People’s National Party did not contest the election.
