France outclass Reggae Girlz 3-0 in friendly
KINGSTON, Jamaica— France dominated their women’s friendly international against Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz on Friday, beating them 3-0 at the Stade Auguste Bonal, in Montbéliard, France.
The teams were meeting for the first time since they had played out a 0-0 draw in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia which Jamaica finished with 10 players after Khadija Shaw was sent off in time added.
The experienced Drew Spencer was unavailable for the Jamaican team after she picked up an injury in training the day before the game.
The France team that is ranked 10th in the world, 32 places higher than the Jamaicans, dominated all facets of the game and took advantage of the mistakes that they forced in the Jamaican defence.
Clara Mateo sent France in the lead in the 22nd minute after Chantelle Swaby’s missed clearance and she was sent through giving goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer no chance of making a save.
Wendie Renard made the score 2-0 in the 39th minute when she was left unmarked, allowing her to get a header past Spencer.
Another failed clearance in the 48th minute by Tiffany Cameron on a cross from Delphine Cascarino, allowed Sandy Baltimore to power the ball back across the goal into the far corner.
