Jamaican drummer ‘Prince’ Shirley dies in Germany
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Drummer Basil “Prince” Shirley passed away in Germany on Wednesday after battling an undisclosed illness.
Reggae producer Donovan Germain described Shirley as an extraordinary musician.”He wasn’t really a studio drummer but he played with Til Shiloh band until Buju Banton was incarcerated. He was really good at what he did. He played very close to the record as possible. He was always on tempo and the band could really rely on him to give off that strong beat,” Germain told OBSERVER ONLINE.Germain, who said he has known Shirley for over two decades, added that the drummer was extremely fun-loving and committed to his craft.
