Portmore reprisal killer shot dead
PORTMORE’S dreaded reprisal killer, Oshane Ellis from Christian Pen, St Catherine, was shot to death Friday night, within hours of the murder of his ninth victim, Steve Martin, known as ‘Blacka’ from Braeton.
Police say Ellis, in his mid-20s, who goes by the names ‘Fish Tea’ and ‘Seeto’ was shot twice, in his head and neck, in Waterford, by one of his cronies, who had earlier accompanied him on the murder mission in Braeton where Martin was killed.
Another man, in his late 30s, was also shot in Waterford, allegedly by Ellis’ killer. He is in the Spanish Town Hospital in critical condition.
Ellis’ reign of terror started in December 2000, four months after his father, a race horse groom who lived in Portmore Lane, Newland, was gunned down.
Following his father’s death, Ellis vowed to kill anyone whom he believed was linked to his father’s murder, police sources said yesterday. Investigators from the Portmore CIB theorise that Martin may have been the last person on Ellis’ death list, as he (Ellis) is reported to have told friends that he wanted to kill Blacka, “if it was the last thing he did” before he died.
Among Ellis’ victims were:
* Dave Minto, who was fatally shot at Portmore Mall on December 16, 2000.
* Jermaine Steele, who was gunned down on Tampa Avenue, Independence City on August 31, 2001. Six 9mm spent shells were found on the scene.
* Matthew Baker, killed on September 3, 2001 at 28 Texas Avenue, Independence City. Four 9mm spent shells and an expended round were found at that location.
* Errol Levy, killed on October 11, 2001 at Chatsworth Road, Waterford. Eleven 9mm spent shells were found in the vicinity of the shooting.
* Lincoln Lewis, otherwise called “Prang”, murdered on February 4 this year on the Newlands main road. Twelve 9mm spent shells and an expended bullet were seized.
* Richard Belnavis, murdered on February 25 this year at Daniel Close, Portmore Lane. Twelve 9mm spent shells were seized.
In addition, police said he was involved in two shootings in February of this year, which left two people dead.
Investigators had said in March that most of the murders were committed on Mondays and Thursdays, between 8:00 pm and 11:30 pm and the victims were persons known to Ellis. One police source told the Observer yesterday, that his victims were all linked to gun crimes.
“None of his victims were innocent, all of them were involved in crime. His death (also) cleared up a lot of crimes,” the source said.
