Vows: Chance Encounter to Everlasting Love

Who knew that a cursory glance would become the permanent reflection of a happily-ever-after? Tanesha Davis and Omar Jones met at a lounge in Hartford, Connecticut. Both were attending Omar’s cousin’s party.

Convivial conversation and laughter over cocktails marked their initial acquaintance. “I noticed Tanesha standing at the bar in this beautiful red dress. I approached her and offered to buy her and her friends a drink. They accepted the drinks and I went back to partying with my friends.

“As the evening progressed, I asked Tanesha for a dance,” Omar shared with Tuesday Style Vows (TSV). Their encounter bore a striking resemblance to Chris de Burgh’s lyrics, “Lady in Red is dancing with me…” In between dances they discovered a mutual kinship: they were both born in Kingston, Jamaica, and raised in St Catherine. It’s no surprise that they left with each other’s contact information.

It would be fair to deduce that a whirlwind romance ensued as they unearthed more similarities with each small gathering at Omar’s house, on weekends when they’d go to Manhattan, NY, to shop or during the family’s annual boat ride, or on vacation to Bali.

Omar soon found himself orchestrating the proposal. “Tanesha had recently received a promotion at her job, and I decided to put together a surprise party for her. I invited our closest friends and family members to the house to handle the preparations while I took Tanesha and the children out to eat,” he told TSV.

“Tanesha was shocked on our return from dinner at the number of vehicles in the driveway, and she asked me what was going on. I told her that we were celebrating her promotion and I had planned a party for her,” he explained.

Imagine Tanesha’s surprise, however, when she stepped inside onto a carpet of rose pedals. Candles lined the stairwell as she was led to the strains of Best Part by Daniel Caesar featuring H.E.R., to where family and friends eagerly waited to capture the moment. Omar got down on one knee, engagement ring in hand, and asked Tanesha to be his wife. A still-stunned Tanesha replied in the affirmative.

Exchange of Vows

Tanesha and Omar exchanged wedding vows on December 23, 2022, at Borghinvilla, nestled in serene and picturesque Discovery Bay. Romance and group travel specialist Angela Jennings made the wedding one for the books, or in this case, the Vows section of the Jamaica Observer newspaper! The sublime colour scheme of emerald green, ruby red, and burnt orange lent a regal aura to the ceremony.

With all the grace and chivalry befitting such an occasion, Tanesha was gallantly escorted up the aisle by her two sons, Eric Lambert and Nazir Telford, to the strains of Best Part by Daniel Caesar and H.E.R. Tanesha’s white mermaid gown with flowing truffles and exquisite intricacies designed by JLorraine Designs elicited a smile from her expectant bridegroom. In her hand was a bouquet of burgundy and ivory roses, berries, greenery, and Dendrobium orchids.

Pastor Christopher White was the officiant.

The Reception

The newly-weds made their grand entrance to Christopher Martin’s Big Deal. The ambiance was nothing short of enchanting, with Kenny Rogers’s Write Your Name Across My Heart and Perfect by Ed Sheeran resonating in the air as the lovebirds took their first dance as newly-weds. The sumptuous banquet, courtesy of Chef Francis, was followed by the cutting of the two-tiered wedding cake. Heartfelt toasts and dancing brought the evening to a perfect close.

The lovebirds honeymooned at Ocean Coral Springs, Trelawny.
