Wadadah, Faulkland pull clear in Western Confed Super League
GRANVILLE, St James — Defending champions Wadadah FC and mid-season finalists Faulkland FC moved seven points clear of the rest of the field after scoring contrasting wins in Saturday’s start of the cross-zone round of the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation Charley’s JB Rum Super League.
Wadadah FC battled their way to a 1-0 win over Granville United at the Granville Community Centre while Faulkland FC scored three times in the second half to beat Reggae Youths 3-0 at the UDC Field in two St James derbies, as both improved to 27 points.
Falmouth United were meanwhile stunned 1-0 by Harmony FC in a Trelawny derby at Bounty Hall to stay put on 20 points, the same as Sandals South Coast, who blanked Delveland PYC 2-0 at Crocs Lawn in Whitehouse, Westmoreland.
Meanwhile, the game between Hopewell United and Lucea FC set for Orchard Sports Complex was not played due to a waterlogged field. It will be rescheduled.
At the Granville Community Centre, Wadadah FC extended their win streak to seven games thanks to an 86th-minute goal from Oshane Hunter, his first of the season.
Wadadah FC came close to opening the score earlier in the second half when top scorer Kemiro James rounded goalkeeper Loxley Reid, but his softly hit shot from about three yards out was cleared off the line by a defender.
At the UDC Field, three goals in a 19-minute span took Faulkland FC to a comfortable win over the struggling Reggae Youths.
Lodrick Haughton gave Faulkland FC the lead in the 69th minute when he raced from midway the Reggae Youths half and easily beat the advancing goalkeeper Alrick Gillette to the right corner.
Ewan Barton scored his fourth goal for Faulkland FC and seventh overall when he added a second in the 84th-minute, shooting for the left side of the 18 yards box into the far corner and Shanoy Anderson got a third two minutes later.
At Bounty Hall, Harmony FC revived their semi-final hopes by clipping Falmouth United 1-0, the veteran Carlington Johnson getting the winner in the 21st minute to put the brakes on their parish rivals.
Sandals South Coast moved into fourth place by beating Delveland PYC 2-0 with second half goals from Junior Neil, who opened the scoring in the 60th minute, and Dwayne Hasely, who scored in the 79th minute.
Grand Palladium were also winners on Saturday, beating Somerton FC 2-1 in Lucea.
Omar Martin gave Grand Palladium the lead in the 42nd minute and they held it until the 62nd minute when Earl Anderson equalised for the St James team.
