Stewart flourishing at Mount Pleasant after from Molynes move
THE impact Trivonte Stewart is having at Mount Pleasant FA since his mid-season move from Molynes United has almost gone unnoticed, but the big burly forward is certainly making his presence felt.
Stewart hit a brace on Sunday, two quality strikes, as he helped his team to a 4-1 thrashing of Tivoli Gardens.
It was the fourth win in five games for Mount Pleasant who are now heading in the right direction and looking like title challengers once more, this after a mid-season slump saw them tumble from the top of the table.
Stewart has now scored five goals in four games for the club that strengthened significantly in the transfer window as they brought in quite a few quality strikers.
The six-footer has certainly held his own against a number of big-name players, and his rate of return in front of goal is pleasing to the club.
His Coach Nicky Eaden has described him as a handful and said that his goals are a bonus for Mount Pleasant.
For Stewart, getting the Mount Pleasant faithful back into Drax Hall is one of his missions, even as the team tries to ensure that there is more football left to be played after the regular season.
“I feel very great because we are trying to get the fans back into the stadium and because we have a few players away on national duty — so the team needed this win.”
Mount Pleasant had the largest number of travelling supporters when they entered the league a few seasons ago as they certainly played in front of a packed stadium at home each match day. But the numbers started to fall off with back-to-back semi-final disappointments and, following the pandemic, the numbers have been reduced significantly since the reopening.
While at Molynes, Stewart had only two goals from eleven games, but his ratio has gone up significantly to more than 100 per cent since the switch to St Ann. He credits the players around him for his improvement in front of goal.
“It’s teamwork, hard work, and about how the team plays. When I was at Molynes it was mostly me up top alone. At Mount Pleasant I have Daniel [Green] and Devonte Campbell to help me. I am enjoying it a lot because there are a lot of quality players here who are helping me to get my goals,” he said.
Mount Pleasant FA and Molynes United are worlds apart in the table. Mount Pleasant are in 4th place and fighting for the title while Molynes are floundering in 11th place in what is the relegation zone, even though no team will be relegated this season.
Stewart is enjoying life at a club that will almost certainly be in the final six at the end of the regular season.
“I am enjoying that very much but at the same time I have to put in the hard work because I need to ensure that my team gets into the play-offs,” he said.
