Reggae Youths extend lead in Sandals Resorts Major League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Reggae Youths extended their perfect start to the St James Football Association Sandals Resorts Major League after beating Heights FC 2-0 in their first-round game at the UDC Football Field on Thursday.
Both goals came in the second half as Reggae Youths won their fifth-straight game and increased their advantage in the tables to five points.
Granville FC won their third in a row by hammering Montego Bay Boys Club 7-1 to jump into third place, while Cambridge FC came from a goal down to earn a draw with Lilliput Rovers on Friday.
At the UDC Football Field on Thursday, Larnel McFarlane and Oliseh Haye scored second-half goals, their first of the campaign as Reggae Youths stayed perfect.
McFarlane opened the scoring in the 52nd minute, when his free kick from the edge of the 18 yards area was mishandled by goalkeeper Adrian Calame.
Haye then sealed the full points for Reggae Youths when he doubled the advantage in the 80th minute.
At the Granville Community Centre seven different players scored for the home team as they handed Boys Club their sixth straight beating of the season.
Davin Hines opened the scoring in the 10th minute, while Davian Thelwell in the 13th minute and Andrew Allen in the 30th made it 3-0 before Jermarie Grant pulled one back for Boys Club in the 37th minute.
Gregory Gordon scored Granville FC’s fourth goal in the 49th minute, Dane Franklyn added a fifth in the 70th, Andre Tate scored in the 75th, and Kavarn Wilson got the seventh in the 80th minute.
The goals came late in the game on Friday, with Ryan Baker scoring for Lilliput Rovers in the 70th minute before Larone East salvaged a point for Cambridge when he scored a penalty two minutes into time added.
