Mount Pleasant vs Tivoli highlights RSPL match day 27
The tantalising encounter between Mount Pleasant FA and Tivoli Gardens FC at Drax Hall Sports Complex in St Ann is one of the highlights on match day 27 of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL).
Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
Promoted Mount Pleasant have enjoyed a good start to life in the nation’s top flight, sitting fourth in the 12-team table with 41 points from 26 matches.
Mount Pleasant, by all accounts better funded than others and able to attract some of Jamaica’s top-rated local-based players, have won their last two matches, including a 2-1 win at fellow newcomers Dunbeholden FC, and are primed for a top-six play-off spot.
Former champions Tivoli Gardens are on the outside looking in, seventh with 35 points — three points behind sixth-placed University of the West Indies (UW) FC. Inconsistency has been Tivoli’s major bane so far this campaign. Their last three games – a 4-0 win away to FC Reno, followed by a 1-1 result at Dunbeholden and a 0-3 loss at home to fierce rivals Arnett Gardens FC — epitomise their struggles.
The outcome this afternoon at Drax Hall is well and truly anybody’s call.
In another intriguing contest, Arnett Gardens welcome fellow mid-table team UWI to Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in a 7:00 pm start.
Arnett Gardens, who have won their previous two matches, are fifth with 40 points, while UWI, on an unbeaten streak stretching five games, have 38 points.
In another 7 o’clock kick-off, former national club winners Harbour View FC and Dunbeholden both seek to distance themselves from relegation danger when they clash at Harbour View Stadium. Harbour View are ninth with 26 points, while Dunbeholden is a place below with 24 points, barely clear of the two relegation spots.
At 3:30 pm, 11-placed Reno (23 points) entertain reigning champions and leaders Portmore United (50) at Frome Sports Complex in Westmoreland.
Also at 3:30 pm, eighth-placed Humble Lion FC (30 points) tackle cellar team Montego Bay United (20 points) at Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon.
Tomorrow’s flagship Monday night fixture features designated hosts Cavalier FC and Waterhouse FC at Anthony Spaulding Complex, starting 8:35.
Youthful Cavalier have impressed while coasting in third place with 45 points, while high flying Waterhouse are second with 48 points.
