Jamaican swimmer MacKenzie Headley draws IADP reprimand
PROMISING Jamaican swimmer MacKenzie Headley has been reprimanded by the Independent Anti-Doping Panel (IADP) following a doping violation which, reportedly, took place last year.
However, there will be no period of ineligibility for MacKenzie who represented Jamaica at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, last August.
According to the IADP, Headley committed the violation in Barbados and Guadeloupe last year.
Her results at the Carifta Swimming and Open Games in Barbados on April 17, 2022 and at the Caribbean Games on June 30, 2022 are now disqualified.
The panel said in a media release that there was no significant fault or negligence on the part of the athlete.
“The respondent was a minor at the time of in-competition testing on the 17th April 2022, during the 2022 Carifta Swimming and Open Water Championships held in Barbados. The athlete was subjected to an in-competition doping control test,” the Independent Anti-Doping Panel said.
“Analysis of her sample returned an adverse analytical finding (AAF) for the prohibited substances GW0742 – metabolites (sulfoxide and sulfone), GW501516 – metabolites sulfoxide and sulfone, and SARM LGD (ligandrol) – 4033 metabolite, which are prohibited by WADA at all times.”
IADP stated that MacKenzie waived the testing of her B-sample and accepted the results, and on October 14, 2022 the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission formally notified the athlete and she was provisionally suspended.
The IADP added that similarly, Headley was a minor on June 30,2022 during the 2022 Caribbean Games held in Guadeloupe, where the athlete was again subjected to an in-competition doping control test.
The analysis of her sample returned an AAF for the prohibited substances GW1516 – metabolite (sulfone) non-specified, and GW1516 – metabolite (sulfoxide) non-specified, which are prohibited by WADA at all times.
