Dinthill, Garvey Maceo finalise daCosta semi-brackets
Former champions Dinthill Technical High and Garvey Maceo High completed the semi-final pairings in the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup in a tense final round of matches in the quarter-final round on Tuesday.
Three teams finished on six points in Group B, with Dinthill Technical, despite their first loss of the season, topping the group with a +4 goal difference ahead of Garvey Maceo’s +3, with BB Coke High’s Cinderella run ending on a -2 goal difference.
Dinthill Technical and Garvey Maceo High join Group A qualifiers Clarendon College and Glenmuir High in the semi-finals and book their spots in the first round of the ISSA Champions Cup competition.
Dinthill Technical, who like BB Coke finished the game with 10 players, lost 2-1, but Raheim Harris’s goal was the difference between first and second as they will face Glenmuir High in one semi-final, with Garvey Maceo High taking on Clarendon College in the other, both set for November 22.
Garvey Maceo High beat Cornwall College 2-0 to finish second in Group B and returned to the semi-finals for the first time since the 2021 season when they won the title.
Clarendon College came from a goal down to beat Glenmuir High 2-1 to top Group A with a maximum nine points, while Manchester High ended the round with a 3-1 win over Christiana High.
At STETHS, Enrique Powell and Sanjay Allen had given BB Coke a 2-0 lead before Harris pulled a goal back for Dinthill Technical, who had won their first two games.
Tamiesh Richardson of Dinthill Technical was sent off, as was BB Coke’s Jahmaul Wright, and both will miss their team’s next game.
Jelani Williams scored for Garvey Maceo in the 10th minute and Cleo Clarke in the 4th minute as they rebounded from their 3-0 loss to Dinthill Technical on Saturday and clinched their place in the semi-final.
Deandre Gallimore and Tedame Williams scored for Clarendon College as they came back from a goal down to beat Glenmuir High who had taken the lead through Orane Watson.
The win extended Clarendon College’s unbeaten run this season and took their record to 36 games in the daCosta Cup without a loss, dating back to last season.
