#ParisOlympics: Goule-Toppin wins heat to advance in 800m
Tracey to contest repechage round for semi-final spot
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Many time national champion Natoya Goule-Toppin easily qualified for the semi-finals of the women’s 800m at the Paris Olympic Games after winning her heat in 1:58.66 at Stade de France.
The 33-year-old Goule-Toppin, who was eighth at the Tokyo Games three years ago, ran from the front the entire race, dictating the pace to post her second fastest time of the season, and will now earn a rest day with the semi-finals set for Sunday afternoon.
Jamaica’s other representative, Adelle Tracey failed to get an automatic semi-final spot but gets a second try as she will contest the repechage round on Saturday after running a season’s best 2:03.47 for eighth place in her heat.
