UWI Guild helps needy students
The University of the West Indies Principal Professor Dale Webber (left) accepts an enhanced version of a cheque valued at $1.6 million from UWI Guild President Danielle Mullings (centre) and Guild Post-graduate Representative Kijana Johnson.
The cheque is a portion of the more than $3 million donated by the Guild to assist students who have found themselves in need following the impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The total amount donated in semester two is $3.5 million.
This consists of $1 million for finalising students who were not cleared to sit examinations, $1.6 million to support post-graduate students, and $900,000 for undergraduate students in need, across all year groups.
The beneficiaries were either selected based on applications submitted to the Guild’s Fresh Cash programme, the Mona Association of Post-graduate Students’ Financial Assistance programme or a recommendation from the Office of the Registrar.
