Sandals Foundation kicks off Christmas giving in St James
SANDALS Foundation volunteers in the Montego Bay region have kicked off the spirit of giving for Christmas with a treat for more than 270 children and adults in the communities of Salt Spring and Albion in St James.
In a heart-warming gesture, youngsters, mainly students from Salt Spring Primary and Infant, Hartfield Basic and Albion Basic, were treated to festive delights, sweet treats, and cherished moments with Santa and his elves.
Amidst shared laughter and the warmth of the season, children received Christmas toys and games courtesy of United States toy company Hasbro, while harmonising in joyful Christmas carols.
Trudy-Ann Taylor, principal of Salt Spring Primary, expressed gratitude as she noted that this thoughtful act transformed the school atmosphere.
“Today has been nothing short of a joyous occasion as we welcomed the volunteers from the Sandals Foundation to share such warmth and kindness with our students. It’s moments like these that truly resonate with us, reminding us of the incredible generosity that still exists in our country,” said Taylor with a smile.
“To witness such care and support from those who hold our school dear, especially during challenging times, means the world to us and the children we cherish,” added Taylor.
In the meantime, Carlene Miller, principal of Hartfield Basic School, echoed similar sentiments.
“We have been going through a lot recently with the up rise of violence in our community, which has had a profound impact on our kids. But today’s Christmas treat was a beacon of solace, bringing a sense of calm, love and most importantly, hope,” said Miller.
For the students though it was the encounter with Santa and getting their gifts that will potentially create an unforgettable memory.
“I love my new toy, thank you Sandals,” little Alexia Johnson of Hartfield Basic exclaimed with much delight.
Alexia and her classmates are among over 15,000 children across several Caribbean islands, who will, this Christmas season, receive the benevolence of the Sandals Foundation’s Annual Christmas Toy Donation. A significant number of these gifts will help to brighten the spirits of children in the Montego Bay region, while bringing back some magic and hope to the holiday season.
