Renovations completed at Christian Early Childhood Academy
The Desnoes and Geddes (D&G) Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering education by once again stepping up to transform the learning environment at The Christian Early Childhood Academy.
The foundation recently collaborated with staff and parents to paint classrooms, repair furniture and fixtures, and design a vibrantly coloured mural to create a welcoming space for students when they return to begin the new school year in September.
The renovations were done on Thursday, August 10.
“The foundation continues to give me hope. They are the first to lend us their support when we need it most, and since partnering with us a few years ago, they have been consistent ever since. Their support has not only helped our students, it has helped maintain our staff and has positively impacted the entire community. I want to sincerely thank the D&G Foundation for always answering our call for help,” said principal of the Christian Early Childhood Academy Sherica Francis-Christian.
Over 10 years ago, Francis-Christian reopened the Christian Early Childhood Academy, leading a staff of three teachers and accommodating no more than 35 students. Today, she is able to facilitate over 80 students, who are guided by a team of eight teachers. She hopes to continue to expand the school.
“Today’s project was needed. We want to continue investing in our children and this community. This school has truly made a difference, allowing more children to be enrolled despite their financial standing. We also made it a habit to host Saturday classes for our parents because we want to help them help their little ones. I am truly grateful for how far we have come, and we absolutely could not have done it without the foundation,” added Christian.
D&G Foundation Accountant Dennis Beckford emphasised the positive impact of early childhood education in setting a strong foundation for lifelong learning and success.
“We’re strong believers in the power of early education, especially within underserved communities. We hope that with every investment we make, it will pave a path of possibility, and create a brighter future for these young children. We want to make an impact here and now and continue shaping the potential of generations to come.”
In 2019, the D&G Foundation first assisted the Christian Early Childhood Academy with major renovations.
Answering Francis Christian’s call for help, the foundation repaired the roof, replaced deteriorating plyboards, built an isolation centre in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and assisted with painting projects.
Not long after, the foundation made a cash donation of $100,000 to assist in purchasing new workbooks to boost the school’s curriculum. Last year the foundation assisted with the school’s breakfast programme and revisited the academy earlier this year to read and engage with the students for Read Across Jamaica Day.
