The three persons murdered are 43-year-old Woman Corporal Bevon Hutchinson-Anderson of Melrose Mews, Rohan Shaw, 45, of Rosedale Drive in Mandeville and Keinon Shaw, 12, of Melrose Mews. Rohan Shaw is the father of Keinon Shaw while Woman Corporal Hutchinson-Anderson is the mother of Keinon Shaw.
The retired policeman has been identified as Osbourne Whitton, 58. He took early retirement approximately three years ago. The incident follows that in Three Hills, St Mary earlier this month when Corporal Wayne Llewellyn shot his wife and killed four members of her family before committing suicide.
Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington has appealed to police personnel with domestic and other personal problems to seek help.
“Members and former members should not be afraid to receive counselling or therapeutic assistance. Our medical and chaplaincy units are staffed by well trained professionals who will maintain confidentiality and who will give guidance to help personnel with problems. In addition, the JCF operates a ‘hotline’ which members can access. This ‘hotline’ (1 888 2 GET HELP) guarantees confidentiality and is the quickest way members can get help,” said Ellington in a statement.
He urged family members and friends of police personnel to assist by also speaking with the medical and chaplaincy units and the hotline. He also urged supervisors to pay attention to the welfare of their personnel.
