#WorldChamps2023: Jamaican women clock world lead to advance to 4x400m final
Jamaica’s women’s 4x400m relay team clocked a world-leading 3:22.74 to advance to Sunday’s final of the event at the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships.
The quartet of Charokee Young, Nikisha Pryce, Shiann Salmon and Stacey-Ann Williams won the first of two semi-finals, crossing the line ahead of Canada, who finished in a season’s best (SB) 3:23.29, and the Netherlands (3:23.75/SB).
Meanwhile, in semi-final two, defending champions United States, who crossed the line in second, were disqualified for a baton exchange outside of the zone.
Great Britain and Northern Ireland won in a SB of 3:23.33. Belgium were bumped up to second in a time of 3:23.63/SB and Italy recorded a national record of 3:23.86 for third.
Poland (3:24.05/SB), Ireland (2:26.18/SB) and France (3:27.50/SB) will advance as non-automatic qualifiers.
The women’s 4x400m final will close the curtains on the championships at 2:47 pm Jamaica time.
