Waterhouse rally to beat Faulkland in JPL
ST JAMES, Jamaica— Waterhouse FC came from behind twice to beat Faulkland FC 3-2 in a return round game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in St James on Monday and reclaimed a play-off spot in the Jamaica Premier League.
Two goals early in the second half made the difference for Waterhouse as they moved up to sixth place in the points tables with 34 points as Faulkland FC remained in relegation danger on 10 points.
In the second game of the double-header, Mt Pleasant FC salvaged a point after coming from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw against Montego Bay United and remained in third place after failing to win in their last four games.
Faulkland started well and led after nine minutes when Tevin Thompson finished off a good team move by rolling the ball past goalkeeper Kemar Foster in the 17th minute.
The lead lasted three minutes before Duvaughn Dunkley equalised for Waterhouse, but Jelani Nicholson scored his second goal of the season in the 40th minute to give Faulkland FC a 2-1 lead at half time.
The scores were even within a minute of the second half after a penalty was awarded inside the first 30 seconds and Damion Binns made no mistake from the spot.
Shaqueil Bradford then gave Waterhouse the lead for the first time when he scored in the 55th minute to complete the comeback.
Montego Bay United came within three minutes of avenging their first round 5-1 loss to Mt Pleasant FA but had to settle for their fifth consecutive draw.
Shaquille West gave MBU a surprise lead in the ninth minute when he fired past goalkeeper Daniel Russell but the St Ann club got back on level terms when a shot from Donovan Segree in the 22nd minute hit a MBU player and looped over the goalkeeper’s head and under the crossbar.
The home team were back in the lead in the 25th minute after Courtney Allen was taken down just inside the Mt Pleasant penalty area and Nevaun Turner calmly slotted home the resulting penalty.
With time running out, Mt Pleasant forced a series of corners and the MBU defense failed to get the ball away and Sue-Lae McCalla poked the ball across the line from a crowd of players.
