WATCH: Junior athlete taunts rivals, runs backwards to finish line
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A junior athlete had some track fans in stitches Saturday after showboating his way to victory in the under-15 800m at the Jamaica Teachers’ Association/Sagicor National Athletics Championship at the National Stadium.
After charging from near the back of the field to take the lead at around the 150m mark, Cavel Nooks of St Thomas was strolling to victory on the straightaway when he decided to taunt his rivals by running backwards to the finish line.
There were loud cheers inside the stadium at the boy’s action, which may evoke mixed reactions from the wider public.
While some will disapprove of what may be considered unsportsmanlike conduct, others may excuse the boy’s behavior as youthful exuberance. Tell us how you feel about his actions. Watch the video below.
