WATCH: Decomposed body found believed to be escapee from Black River lock-up
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica— A body believed to be that of one of the eight inmates who escaped from the Black River lock-up in St Elizabeth on June 19 has been found.
Head of the St Elizabeth Police, acting superintendent Coleridge Minto told OBSERVER ONLINE that during an operation on Monday, an unfinished structure suspected to be where the escapees were staying was found in the New Market area of St Elizabeth.
The man’s decomposed body was reportedly discovered in bushes near the structure.
“On Monday about 12 noon, a team led by myself and others journeyed into the hills of St Elizabeth, right at this location where this unfinished structure is located. It is believed that the men were using this location as a base. We have seen evidence that persons were here. We have seen things such as cell phones that were burnt, spoons, liquor bottles, and important to note is that a body was also located in the nearby bushes. The body was in an advanced decomposed state and therefore we have contacted our forensic scene of crime for it to be fully processed,” Superintendent Minto stated.
He added that the man’s identity will not be released until the scene has been processed.
Minto also urged the remaining escaped inmates to turn themselves in to the police with their attorneys.
On Saturday, one of the escaped inmates was captured at a bar in Buena Vista near Myersville, in St Elizabeth.
He is Richard Brown, a resident of Middle Quarters in the parish. Brown was charged with robbery with aggravation.
