WATCH: Barking Lodge Primary receives 15 Chromebooks in memory of community matriarch Ellen Wynter
ST THOMAS, Jamaica – Barking Lodge Primary School in St Thomas received a donation of 15 Chromebooks in memory of the late Ellen Wynter, a revered figure in the Barking Lodge community.
Wynter, who lived adjacent to the school for over 50 years, had eight children, all of whom were educated at the school.
The generous contribution was made possible by the Renaissance Foundation, Councillor Michael McLeod, and the Wynter family. Principal Tannia Johnson expressed her gratitude, stating, “This is an awesome day for all the Barking Lodge school family. We want to thank the Renaissance Foundation, we want to thank Councillor Michael McLeod, [and] we want to thank the Wynters for enabling us to get these Chromebooks. And I know they will enable students to research, do homework and also enhance our teaching and learning [experience].”
During the handover ceremony, Llewellyn Wynter, one of Wynter’s children and a retired police officer, encouraged the principal to advocate for the completion of the school’s Information Technology lab.
The Wynter siblings, who have pursued careers in academia, law enforcement, finance, and entrepreneurship, attribute much of their success to the solid foundation they received at Barking Lodge Primary.
Ellen Wynter passed away on October 4 at the age of 93, and the Chromebook donation serves as a meaningful tribute to her legacy.
