UPDATE: Investigation launched into Bahia Principe explosion
ST ANN, Jamaica — An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of Wednesday morning’s explosion at the Grand Bahia Principe Hotel in Runaway Bay, St Ann.
The blast, which damaged one of the resort’s 10 restaurants, has not affected operations at the property.
“We would have gone through the protocols of getting the fire department on site and have them treating with the processing of the scene. The resort – both the Grand, which is the family hotel and the Luxury, which is the adults-only – continue in full-service operations,” director of Internal Organisation and Corporate Social Responsibility at the hotel, Fabian Brown told OBSERVER ONLINE.
“Matter of fact, the restaurant in question will also be back in operation later this [Wednesday] evening. An investigation has now been launched by the company as to the reasons or what would have transpired. So we await that along with the report from the fire department,” he added.
Two employees who were injured during the 4:45 am blast were treated and sent home and guests were not impacted.

“At that time, you wouldn’t have many persons at work, because as we have said, it was during the time of cleaning up and preparations, so the team members were a small cohort of persons. Those who were impacted in one way or the other would have been seen by medical professionals and our team from HR and those were sent home,” said Brown.
