University of Kentucky student arrested for assaulting black student, calling her racial slurs
Sophia Rosing, a 22-year-old University of Kentucky student was arrested after she attacked a black student worker and repeatedly called her racial slurs early Sunday morning.
The student worker, Kylah Spring, reported that Rosing stumbled into the university’s Boyd Hall and appeared to be highly intoxicated.
Spring later explained in a TikTok video that she tried to check on the woman but was instead attacked and verbally assaulted by Rosing.
In videos posted to social media, it can be seen that the intoxicated woman refused Spring’s help and went on to call her the n-word, among other things.
It is reported that Spring and another student tried to place Rosing in a seat but she swung at them and kicked Spring.
Spring said Rosing punched her multiple times, kicked her in the stomach and bit her arm while ordering her to do her chores.
“The girl starts saying things like ‘Do my chores,’ ‘It’s not my fault that you’re black,’ ‘It’s not my fault that you’re ugly,’ and at this point, she’s like singing the n-word,” Spring said.
Police eventually showed up to arrest Rosing, but even that did not stop her racist tirade.
Rosing also kicked and bit a police officer, reports said.
She was arrested just before 4 am on charges of public intoxication, assault, disorderly conduct and assault on a police officer, according to online booking information. A judge set her bond at $10,000.
The University of Kentucky condemned the incident in a statement released Sunday morning.
“Early this morning, a disturbing incident was captured on video in a residence hall,” the university said. “The video is deeply offensive, and we take it very seriously.”
The school said its Office of Student Conduct is making an immediate review and that its Student Success teams have reached out to the victims to offer support.
The university’s president also sent a message to the school community saying there will be a full investigation.
