Russell Thompkins Jr and The New Stylistics headlines Reggae Meets Soul’s return
South Florida’s Caribbean community is filled with people who grew up on the sounds of American Rhythm And Blues from the 1970s. They never tire of music from that era.
On March 18, they get another chance to savour the golden age of R&B at the popular Reggae Meets Soul show which returns to the Coral Springs Center For The Performing Arts.
Russell Thompkins Jr and The New Stylistics, Kashief Lindo and J C Lodge are confirmed acts.
COVID-19 forced promoters to cancel the last two years of Reggae Meets Soul but it is scheduled to make a roaring return with Russell Thompkins Jr and The New Stylistics as headliners.
Thompkins Jr is best known as lead singer of The Stylistics which formed in Philadelphia during the late 1960s and exploded in the early 1970s working with songwriter/producer Thom Bell.
The Jamaica-born Bell steered them on songs like ‘Betcha by Golly Wow’, ‘Stop’, ‘Look’, ‘Listen to Your Heart’, ‘You Make me Feel Brand New’ and ‘You’re my Everything’.
Lindo is best known for hits such as ‘The First Cut is The Deepest’ and ‘No Can Do’.
Lodge is equally comfortable doing lovers rock songs or dancehall jams. She broke through in 1980 with a cover of Charlie Pride’s ‘Someone Loves You Honey’, followed by ‘Gonna Make it Up’ and ‘Telephone Love’.
