The Greaves Brothers makes waves with Afrobeats Medley
Sibling harmony is on show for Afrobeats Medley, a song by The Greaves Brothers, a trio based in South Florida. The single, which features DJ Mossy Kid, has made waves in that region where it is currently number four on the South Florida Reggae Chart.
Produced by My MM Productions, the song hears Teddy, Yishka and Gersi singing The Temptations’ My Lady Soul, The Drifters’ This Magic Moment and Stand by Me by Ben E King. Their vocals are complemented by toasting from DJ Mossy Kid, a former member of Sean Paul’s Dutty Cup Crew.
Produced by My MM Productions founders Wayne Armond and Orville Marshall, Afrobeats Medley was released last August. It followed a fruitful recording session with Yishka, who also plays saxophone.
“Wayne and I worked with Yishka on another project and that spilled over to The Greaves Brothers project. We brainstormed for a while after speaking with the brothers and decided that we would work on a project with them,” Marshall disclosed. “The Idea of a R&B cover song was discussed initially and over several discussions it morphed into a medley with a deejay segment at the end of each song. Wayne started writing the lyrics for the deejay and I finished it. We tried a few deejays and it wasn’t the right fit and Wayne suggested Mossy Kid who he knows well and the rest is history.”
The Greaves Brothers were born into music. Their father, Teddy Greaves Senior, was a bandleader who worked on Jamaica’s North Coast and in The Bahamas for many years.
He taught his sons the rudiments of music and they followed his path into live performing and recording. Yishka is arguably the best known, having been a member of the legendary Soul Syndicate Band and released four solo albums.
Armond is best known for his work with Chalice and as a session guitarist, while Marshall is a businessman who has been involved in the music business for several years. They started My MM Productions in 2020 and have had success with songs like Armond’s The New Babylon and J C Lodge’s Love Uprising.
