Taxi operator accused of raping 13-y-o girl in St Mary
ST MARY, Jamaica— A 54-year-old man accused of raping a 13-year-old school girl in Port Maria, St Mary was officially charged on Monday.
Herron DaCosta, otherwise called ‘Cop’, a taxi driver from Port Maria, was charged with rape following investigations into the incident, which reportedly occurred last month.
No court date has been given for the accused.
OBSERVER ONLINE understands that he is still in custody.
Reports are that around 7:20 am on June 6, 2023, the child took a taxi to school.
It is alleged that the cabbie turned off from the route and took the schoolgirl to an undisclosed location where she was raped.
A report was subsequently made to the police. Following investigations, DaCosta was taken into custody after he was pointed out in an identification parade.
He was subsequently charged.
