St James parish council mum on status of mayor after car accident
ST JAMES, Jamaica – Administrators and officials at the St James Municipal Corporation (SJMC) have been oddly tight-lipped on the current status of Montego Bay’s Mayor, Councillor Leeroy Williams.
Mayor Williams was reportedly rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital (CRH) on Saturday morning after a motor vehicular accident in the vicinity of Ironshore, St James. A well-placed source stated then that the Prado SUV that Williams was driving crashed into a parked trailer during his commute home after festival night one of the Reggae Sumfest.

Since then, there has been no official communication from the usually transparent local authority. Efforts made by OBSERVER ONLINE to receive a follow-up from the corporation’s CEO Naudia Crosskill have also been futile. The corporation’s public relations team has also offered no information and directed our news team to the CEO’s office.
At the same time, a well-placed OBSERVER ONLINE source has shared that Mayor Williams was transported to the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) where he is currently admitted for further treatment. It is reported that the mayor sustained a fractured hip and broken femur bone in the motor vehicular accident.
It is unclear, however, why the SJMC has not released any information to indicate that the mayor is currently hospitalised, and of his current health status.
