Reggae Boyz head coach open to Greenwood call-up
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Head Coach of the Reggae Boyz, Heimir Hallgrimsson says the door is open for controversial forward Mason Greenwood to join the National Senior Men’s Team in the future.
His response follows the Jamaica Observer’s exclusive story published on Friday, October 6, 2023.

When asked by the Observer if he would be comfortable with Greenwood’s addition, Hallgrimsson says he would have no issues with his inclusion despite his history of being arrested on a number of offences including attempted rape and abuse, though the charges were dropped in February 2023.
“I am not different from all coaches in the world; we would like to have the best talent on our team. If he gets his former fitness and former levels, for sure he would have that level to help Jamaica,” said Hallgrimsson at the Jamaica Football Federation’s Head Office on Friday.
The 22-year-old is currently playing for La Liga Club Getafe after Manchester United sent him out on loan following a lengthy internal investigation on his actions.
