Portland records sixth road fatality after two-vehicle collision
PORTLAND, Jamaica – A sixth road fatality has been recorded in Portland this year following a two-vehicle collision in Hart Hill along the north-eastern highway on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Odane Scott, a labourer of Hart Hill in the parish.
Reports are that Scott was driving a black Toyota Scarlet motorcar which crashed into a Toyota Axio which was travelling in the opposite direction. The Axio was driven by 34-year-old Anthony Hird, a farm worker, also of Hart Hill.
Scott was trapped inside his car and was rescued by members of the fire service. Both drivers were taken to the Annotto Bay Hospital, where Scott was pronounced dead and Hird hospitalised.
The Portland traffic police are investigating.
