Police seize firearm, ammo in St Catherine

ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – The St Catherine South Police seized an illegal handgun and several rounds of ammunition on Port Henderson Road in the parish during the first operation since the announcement of a state of public emergency on Tuesday.

Reports are that about 9:10 am, a joint police/military team conducted an intelligence-led operation in the area. A building was targeted and searched, however the occupants fled, leaving behind a Pietro Beretta 9mm pistol loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.

While the investigation continues, the police are encouraging residents to share information on illegal guns, gunmen and gangs, by calling the NIB tip line at 811, Crime Stop at 311, the police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.
