Oracabessa Taxi Association boss welcomes changes to car seat regulations
ST MARY, Jamaica – President of the Oracabessa Taxi Association, Stanford Stewart has welcomed the relaxation of the car seat regulations under the Road Traffic Act.
On Tuesday, Transport Minister Audley Shaw announced that the Government has abandoned the requirement of child restraint systems for children up to 12 years-old using public transportation.
The changes come less than a week after the new Road Traffic Act took effect on February 1, and following public outcry from operators of public transportation as well as parents.

Against this background, Stewart said he is happy that the authorities have corrected what he labelled as a blunder.
He said he will be making representation on several other regulations when he attends the stakeholders meeting on Thursday, February 9.
Among the road traffic rules Stewart is targeting is operating in contrary to a road license.
“There needs to be clarity on this as millions have been fleeced from taxi operators due to this, ” Stewart stated.
