NO RETREAT!
The man who climbed atop the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre in St Andrew has identified himself as a firefighter and says he is protesting the alleged poor staff welfare at the Jamaica Fire Brigade.
Sergeant Leo Bennett says he is demanding better for firefighters in Jamaica.
Firefighters are currently in negotiations over the review of the Government’s compensation package.
“Good morning. Daybreak atop of the Half Way Tree Transport Centre highlighting the need for welfare for the firefighters. No retreat, no surrender. We need a better Jamaica. No retreat, no surrender. Welfare for the firefighters, better Jamaica,” Bennett said in a video filmed while standing on the Transport Centre.
His protest has drawn the attention of scores of commuters who gathered on Tuesday morning to view the spectacle.
Reports are that traffic has also been affected due to the incident.
In May of last year, placard-bearing firefighters demonstrated outside the Ministry of Labour and Social Security at National Heroes Circle in Kingston.
