No planned strike from St Mary and Portland taxi associations
ST MARY, Jamaica – President of the Oracabessa Taxi Association Stanford Stewart said there are no planned strike actions from his or any of the other associations in St Mary and Portland.
He pointed out that since the Government will be meeting with taxi operators and other stakeholders on Thursday, February 9 to resolve some of the laws in the new Road Traffic Act and Regulations, which came into effect on February 1, there is no need for a strike.
“The government has seen their blunder and a resolution with us is needed to have a common ground,” Stewart said.
”Right now two wrongs do not make it right,” the very passionate Stewart told the OBSERVER ONLINE.
He also noted that the meeting with Holness will include discussions on the new regulation that requires public transport vehicles to have a car seat for children under the age group of 12.
