Nikki Spice reaches out to embattled mothers in heartfelt song
Many artistes write songs inspired by periods of personal despair. Some of those heartfelt tracks end up being their most memorable work.
That may well be the case for Nikki Spice with M.O.D.E.L., a song she wrote while fighting inner turmoil. Released in 2022, the South Florida-based singer is still promoting it as encouragement to persons experiencing similar challenges.
“M.O.D.E.L. (which stands for Mom On Dat Elevated Level) was inspired by my experience of not feeling enough in my life overall. I can recall writing this track at my work desk with tears running down my cheeks. Even speaking about it now takes me back with a bit of emotions,” she recalled. “There was a time in my life when I felt rejected and unwanted and feeling as though I was not being a great woman or mother! This song helped me through that mental period.”
The mother of two children told Observer Online that she wanted to reach female parents in particular. She stated that these women do not have to be birth mothers, but caring persons “who suffer self-doubt” due to “negative experiences with other people.”
Nikki Spice was born in Kingston, and hails from Red Hills Road. For the past four years, she has been recording songs such as the patriotic I Miss You Jamaica, which was an entrant in the 2022 Jamaica International Independence Festival Song Competition, an event she has entered twice.
A notary public by profession, she plans to release 24 Hrs, her follow-up to M.O.D.E.L., this month.
