#NationalTrials: Women’s 400m final to produce fireworks
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The women’s 400m at the National Senior and Junior Championships is expected to go down to the wire when the eight finalists grace the track on Sunday.
Nickisha Pryce of the University of Arkanas clocked the fastest qualifying time of 50.69 to win semi- final three.
The former Vere Technical star held off Janieve Russell of MVP, who clocked a lifetime best of 50.98.
Semi-final two was won by Charokee Young of Puma in a time of 50.99.
The fastest Jamaican woman over event this year, Stacey Ann Williams of Elite Performance, had to settle for second in 51.14. Third place went to Shiann Salmon of Adidas who finished third (51.22).
Semi-final one was won by defending National champion Candice McLoed of Puma (51.36). She crossed the line ahead of Ronda Whyte of Adidas (51.99).
Joanne Reid of the University of Arkansas (51.74) has also qualified for the final.
The women’s 400m final is scheduled for 5:37 pm on Sunday.
