National Minimum Wage to be increased in April – Clarke
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Finance and Public Service Minister Dr Nigel Clarke has announced that the national minimum wage will be increased in April.
The increase will come one year since the last pay hike in April 2022.
Clarke made the announcement on Tuesday in the House of Representatives as he opened the 2023/24 Budget Debate. He did not state the level of the increase, citing that the Labour Minister, Karl Samuda is the only person allowed to make the announcement in law.
However, Clarke said it will be “meaningful”.
The Cabinet approved a 28.5 per cent increase in the national minimum wage on April 1, 2022 which saw the rate moving from $7,000 to $9,000 per 40-hour work week.
