Montego Bay United edge Cavalier 1-0
Montego Bay United gave their new owners their first win in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League with a 1-0 win over Caribbean Club finalist Cavalier at Wespow Park on Sunday.
Brazilian Luca Lima Correa netted the goal in the 67th minute as Montego Bay secured their first win in three games and jumped to fifth spot with four points.
Cavalier, which had been busy in the CONCACAF Caribbean Club Championship en route to the final, was playing their first game in the premier league and were left in 13th spot pointless.
Meanwhile, defending champions Mount Pleasant moved to the top of the league following their convincing 3-0 mauling of Dunbeholden at Drax Hall.
The Theodore Whitmore-coached Mount Pleasant are up to six points from two games thanks to goals from Oquassa Chong (5th), captain Sue-Lae McCalla (42nd) and Kimoni Bailey (51st).
Dunbeholden, which drew their first encounter 0-0 with Arnett Gardens, are left in 11th spot with a point from two games.
In the early game at Drax Hall, Waterhouse whipped newcomers Lime Hall 3-1 for their second win in three games to be second on six points. Andre Fletcher grabbed two goals, scoring in the 28th and 51st minutes while Javane Bryant had opened the scoring in the 15th minute for his third goal of the season. Lime Hall is 10th with a point.
Former champions Portmore United rebounded from their opening-day defeat and tagged newcomers Treasure Beach 3-1 at Ferdie Neita Park.
Alex Marshall scored twice in the 10th and 22nd minutes while Chevaughn Walsh scored the third in the 45+3 minute as Portmore moved up to seventh spot on three points.
Treasure Beach, out of St Elizabeth, remained at the bottom of the 14-team table pointless, after losing their debut match 0-1 to Humble Lion last week.
At Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon, home team Humble Lion were held to a 1-1 draw by Molynes United. Karim Bryan gave Humble Lion a 16th-minute lead before veteran striker Jason Wright earned a share of the points for Molynes in the 38th minute.
The Andrew Price-coached Humble Lions are fourth with four points from two games while Molynes United are in eighth with two points from three games.
The league continues on Monday with a doubleheader at the Stadium East as Tivoli Gardens take on Vere at 5:00 pm before Harbour View and Arnett Gardens clash at 7:30 pm.
