MNS auditor gunned down in broad daylight in Portmore
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica— Detectives from the St Catherine South Division are searching for suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of an employee of the Ministry of National Security in Portmore, St Catherine on Saturday.
The internal auditor, 54-year-old Garfield Jones of Cumberland Meadows, Portmore in St Catherine, is also a building contractor.
He was shot dead by an unknown assailant at a construction site in Greater Portmore in the parish.
Reports from the Portmore Police are that about 2:30 pm, Jones was driving his Nissan AD Wagon motor car with a passenger on board when he was pounced upon by a lone gunman travelling on foot who opened fire hitting him.
The police were alerted and he was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The passenger escaped unhurt.
A source told OBSERVER ONLINE that thugs had reportedly attempted to extort Jones, who refused their overtures.
“Thugs had come to the site demanding money, but he refused to pay them. He told them it wasn’t a big construction as he was really just helping out a family member, but they didn’t want to hear that, they just killed him in cold blood, shot down in broad daylight. He was a good man, he didn’t deserve to die like that,” the source said.
The St Catherine South police are investigating.
