Male patient care assistant who fondled teenager to be sentenced in June
HANOVER, Jamaica — A 45-year-old male patient care assistant found guilty of fondling a 15-year-old patient at the Noel Holmes Hospital is to be sentenced in June.
Damion Bigby was convicted in the Hanover Parish Court on Tuesday.
Due to the sensitive nature of the case, it was heard behind closed doors. However, Sharon Beeput, Superintendent in charge of the Hanover Police Division, provided details at its conclusion.
“He was convicted and is set for sentencing on June 14, 2022,” she told OBSERVER ONLINE.
The court was told that the teenager was admitted to the Hanover hospital as she was struggling with depression brought on by sexual assault at the hands of a family member when she was 10 years old.
On the night of May 21, 2021, while at the hospital seeking care, she was fondled by Bigby.
The case, which was investigated by the Hanover branch of the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse, was first called up in the Hanover Parish Court on June 2, 2021.
The family member accused of sexually assaulting the minor was taken into custody last June.
