Kevin Lyttle’s Turn Me On is certified 2x platinum in the UK
St Vincent soca star Kevin Lyttle’s breakthrough hit Turn Me On turns 20 this year. The song, which was released in 2003, was on Friday certified 2x platinum by the British Phonographic Industry for sales and streaming equivalent of 1.2 million units.
Turn Me On was a huge hit in the United States and Europe. It peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100, number two in the United Kingdom, number one in Denmark and number three in Australia. It also charted at number 20 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, number five on US Rhythmic, and number one on Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart. It made the top 10 in Switzerland, Sweden, Scotland, Romania, Norway, Netherlands, Italy, Hungary, Greece, Germany, Czech Republic and Austria.
The song’s remix which features dancehall artiste Spragga Benz (this was the version that became a global hit), was previously certified gold in the United States, Norway, Switzerland, Germany and Denmark. It has earned platinum certification in Australia.
Interestingly, in 2016, American DJ trio Cheat Codes and Dutch DJ Dante Klein released a cover of Turn Me On which was titled Let Me Hold You (Turn Me On). That cover entered several charts in Europe and peaked at number 36 in the United Kingdom, where it has been certified gold as well as platinum in Norway, Denmark, Australia and Italy.
Currently, there is a remake of Turn Me On which has been climbing the British charts. TMO (Turn Me On) by Luude and Bru-C featuring Kevin Lyttle. Released by Warner Records, the song moves up from 45 to 42 on the latest UK Singles chart.
