JPS team delayed in restoring power due to Dalling Street protest
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) is reporting that crew attempting to address an outage at Dalling Street in Sav-la-Mar, Westmoreland, had to turn back due to hostilities in the area.
JPS in a statement today, confirmed that the company received a report on Tuesday from one individual that he had no power at his premises on Dalling Street. This morning a team making their way on Dalling Street in response to the issue, encountered a road block and “a boisterous group of demonstrators” who claimed that they had no power since Sunday, June 5, and who appeared to pose a threat to the JPS workers.
The crew therefore left the area due to security concerns.
“The Company wishes to make it clear that it had no reports even up to this time of writing, of any community-wide outage, or even several customers being out of power. As soon as it was safe to do so, the teams returned and sought to address the matter at hand…Power was restored to the community by 3:00 pm – had it not been for the demonstration, the restoration would have been much earlier,” JPS said.
JPS is also reminding customers that they may make reports of outages on its Facebook or Twitter pages @myjpsonline, via the MyJPS mobile app, or by calling the Customer Care Centre at 888CALLJPS.
