Hugh Graham resigns from Opposition shadow cabinet
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Hugh Graham, the member of parliament for St Catherine North Western, has resigned from the Opposition Shadow Cabinet.
The announcement was made in a letter sent to the Opposition Leader Mark Golding on Monday.
Graham walked away from his position as Opposition Spokesperson on Commerce, Science and Technology with immediate effect. He has also stepped down from his role in the Lluidas Vale Division.
In the letter addressed to Golding, Graham indicated that his resignation follows the hope that the people would be better served with him stepping away from the political arena.
The Opposition MP said the decision follows through on a promise he made to his mother that “if it should ever happen that I don’t think my purpose is to serve the people who have elected me, I would step away with the hope that they would be better served.”
The letter was also shared on his official Instagram page.
“It has been an honour to serve the people of NW St Catherine as councillor and spokesperson for the division. It continues to be an honour to serve the people of Jamaica in the capacity I believe I will have most impact,” the caption read.
He added: “As to my people in the Lluidas Vale division, I am prepared to serve you in whatever way, capacity or opportunity that may arise, as I believe I should serve the people only to make their lives better,” he continued.
Graham has served as Councillor for the Lluidas Vale division since 2007.
