Hospiten Jamaica executes beautification project at St James basic School
ST JAMES, Jamaica— Hospiten Jamaica recently executed a beautification project of the playground and renovation of the sick bay at the Cornwall Gardens Basic School in St James.
The project was in partnership with the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Janet Richards Foundation, parents, and members from the Mt Salem Community Development Committee, the hospital said.
During an official handing-over ceremony at the school last Thursday, representatives from Hospiten Jamaica delivered a bed, fan, wheelchair, cabinet, first aid supplies and essential equipment to make the sick bay more comfortable and accessible for students.
Chevaughne Miller, the Commercial Director at Hospiten Jamaica, expressed pride in the completion of the project, outlining that it was a collaborative effort aimed at improving the community and the school life experience of the students at the Cornwall Gardens Basic School.
“The project saw over 40 individuals from various organisations volunteering their time and services to this project. The Cornwall Gardens Basic School boasts over 100 years of history and currently has 94 students enrolled. We accepted the challenge to help the school and provide the necessary renovations,” Miller stated.
“We were motivated in giving back to the community and support the education and well-being of the children. We are always looking for ways to make a positive impact on the communities in which we operate,” she added.
Miller outlined that volunteers painted the monkey bars, tyres, and swings while also installing new seats. In addition to this, she said the sick bay was completely overhauled to create a safe, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing environment for the children.
“It was equipped with a bed, wheelchair, fan, and basic first aid supplies, among other necessities. The school’s sick bay now provides a stabilising space for sick children before they receive necessary medical attention,” Miller explained.
She informed that the project was part of Hospiten’s broader commitment to community service to create opportunities and quality education to students by extending support services beyond medical care.
Principal of the Cornwall Gardens Basic School Chantal Birthfield-Brown expressed gratitude for the donation and the impact it will have on students and teachers.
“I’m extremely grateful and appreciative for the donation and for choosing our school. The students and teachers now have a comfortable area equipped with medical supplies and items for comfort. They have also promised to further assist the school and we’re looking forward to that as well,” Birthfield-Brown stated.
