Funeral service for slain Clarendon five takes place Sunday at Clarendon College
CLARENDON, Jamaica— The funeral service for Kemesha Wright and her four children who were savagely murdered by a family member at their home in New Road, Cocoa Piece district, Clarendon in June, is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 31 inside the Stuart Hall auditorium at Clarendon College.
The start time for the service is 11:00 am and interment will follow at Sutton’s cemetery.
On Friday night, hundreds of people attended a wake in Turner’s district, also in Clarendon as a show of support for the family and to make final preparations for Sunday’s funeral.
Among those attending Friday night’s wake was the Member of Parliament for Clarendon North Central, Robert Morgan. The slain family members lived in the constituency.
With the government promising to assist with the funeral expenses, the extent of the preparations undertaken were obvious on Friday as the road leading to the cemetery was freshly paved.
Reports are that Prime Minister Andrew Holness will be among several government officials in attendance.
Wright, 31 and her children – Kimana Smith, 15; Shara-Lee Smith, 11; Rafaella Smith, five; and 23-month-old Kishawn Henry Jr. were stabbed and slashed to death between the night of June 20 and the early hours of June 21 inside their home by their cousin Rushane Barnett who has since pleaded guilty to the murders.
The autopsy reports show that the five were stabbed a total of 95 times with Wright receiving 48 incised wounds in the region of her neck, chest, abdomen and limbs (hands and feet). Her cause of death was haemorrhage and shock, as well as multiple sharp force injuries.
Barnett claimed Wright had disrespected him.
He is facing the death penalty.
