The firearm stolen from a policeman last week and subsequently used to shoot another cop in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, has been recovered by lawmen.

The gun was seized from a man in Richmond Park in Half-Way Tree, believed to be mentally unstable, according to law enforcement.

Reports reaching Observer Online are that around 6:00 pm, the man was seen on Kings Avenue in Richmond Park with the firearm and the police were summoned.

The police went to the area, saw and accosted the man. During a reported struggle with several officers, it is understood that the firearm fell from the man’s person and was retrieved. The man was eventually subdued.

The recovered weapon, a Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Glock pistol with a magazine containing five 9mm cartridges, was identified as the one stolen from a constable and used in the previous shooting incident.

During that incident, a policeman was rushed to hospital after he was disarmed and shot in the Half Way Tree area.

The suspect, a mental outpatient from Waltham Park Road in Kingston 13, and the firearm are now in custody at the Half-Way Tree Police Station.
