Firearm, ammunition seized in St Catherine, man in custody

ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – One man is in custody following the seizure of one Sig Sauer 9-millimetre pistol with a magazine containing nine 9-millimetre rounds of ammunition on Hellshire Beach, Portmore, St Catherine on Thursday.

Reports are that about 2:45 pm, a team of police were on a targeted operation in the Hellshire Beach area, when the suspect was seen at a section of the beach behaving in a manner that aroused the officers’ suspicion.

Upon seeing the police, the man reportedly ran and was subsequently accosted; the firearm and ammunition were taken from him and he was arrested.

His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
