Cop arrested after woman robbed at MegaMart, being investigated for other crimes
ST ANDREW, Jamaica- A police corporal has been arrested following a robbery at the MegaMart wholesale club in St Andrew on Wednesday.
The policeman has been charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition after he and another man were intercepted in a car in downtown Kingston.
Superintendent Berrisford Williams, head of the Kingston Central Police Division, confirmed that a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force was arrested and charged, but declined to give details.
“He is being investigated for several robberies in the St Andrew Central Division,” Superintendent Williams told OBSERVER ONLINE.
It is understood that a woman was robbed at gunpoint of her handbag at the St Andrew supermarket. Police, using Jamaica Eye, tracked the robber’s vehicle to downtown Kingston where it was intercepted.
The policeman and the other man were accosted in the car, and during a search of the vehicle, an illegal firearm was found.
The policeman was subsequently arrested and charged.
