China Harbour employee killed by gunmen
KINGSTON, Jamaica — An employee of China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) was shot dead by gunmen while ordering at a cook-shop near his workplace in Ten Miles, Bull Bay, St Thomas, on Friday.
A licensed firearm holder who was at the cook-shop challenged the gunmen and one was reportedly shot and injured.
Police have identified the CHEC employee as Rohan Hayles, 44, from Albion Heights at Yallahs in the parish. It is understood that Hayles doubles as a construction worker and a security guard with the company.
Up to late Saturday evening, police said they have not established a motive for the killing.
It is reported that about 1:30 pm, Hayles went into a corner shop along the roadway. While he was in the process of ordering goods, he was pounced upon by gunmen who opened fire hitting him.
The gunmen fled after they were challenged by the licensed firearm holder. The police were alerted and Hayles was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
